This is vintage material.
If you have a lamp on a pipe (or lamp on a chain with an adjustable pipe), place a adjusting ring under your ceiling cap.
With this adjusting ring you can attach / clamp your ceiling cap tightly against the ceiling.
By tightening the screw, you clamp the adjusting ring on the metal tube.
Very easy to do!
Watch it some ceiling caps already have an adjusting ring attached to them.
If so of course you do not need a separate adjusting ring.
